The Last Great Circus Flyer w/ Director and Cast

The 1956 movie “Trapeze” with Burt Lancaster and Tony Curtis centered around the drama of a circus performer struggling to accomplish a triple somersault. A quadruple somersault was considered impossible… until 17 year old Miguel Angel Vazquez achieved this “impossible” quadruple during a 1982 Ringling Bros. performance with his brother Juan, the catcher. The feat was widely reported by NBC news with Tom Brokaw, the New York Times, etc.

Filmed over a 7 year period, the feature length documentary “The Last Great Circus Flyer” addresses the triumphs, dangers, fears and oftentimes tragedies of trapeze performers through interviews with the members of “The Flying Vazquez”, great flyers of the past, archival film footage and current performances by today’s young flyers from Ringling Bros., Cirque du Soleil, and Circus Vargas.

Circus has changed…and Miguel Vazquez could be “The Last Great Circus Flyer”.

The film will play from July 10th – 21st at 5 pm. Director Philip Weyland and several special guests will be in attendance for the screenings on the 10th & 11th. More details to come so check back often.
